One of our most important activities in the field of raising capacities and educating future elites – annual seminar – was opened yesterday in Palic (Serbia).
Seminar program is conceived in a way which follows BFPE’s basic orientation – support to an process where members of our elites are broadening their knowledge on European values and institutions, processes of European and Euro-Atlantic integrations and respect for Council of Europe’s basic principles.
We have decided to open this year’s edition of annual seminar with a presentation by “Vreme” magazine journalist Muharem Bazdulj, speaking on the centennial of Sarajevo assassination of 1914 and its consequences. We continue our program with presentations and discussions on:
- climate changes and its effects in Serbia, with Milan Nikolic;
- preventing/combating corruption, with Vladan Joksimovic, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Serbia;
- further steps in what seems to be imminent reform of state administration, with Dejan Milenkovic (Faculty of Political Science);
- key tasks of local self-governments in European integration processes, with Nikola Tarbuk (Standing Conference of Municipalities and Towns);
- strategic management in emergency situations, with Drazen Maravic (MoI);
- and something completely new in Serbia – „reform compass“, tool for analysis and evaluation of policies, w/ Jelena Volic and Ljiljana Ubovic (BFPE).
Finally, we have invited Zarko Puhovski to discuss the inner workings of politics vs. ethics with our participants.
Methodology
The program provides for three national seminars, as well as a seminar in the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
National seminars are all held in different locations in Serbia. The program will take place through interactive lectures and workshops, and is designed in such a way that, despite intensive work leaves enough time for networking. All seminars are held in accordance with Chatham house rules, allowing open debate both with the speakers and among participants. National seminars will be devoted to various aspects of economic and social reforms in the transition process, the experience of the newer EU member states, issues of security, foreign policy and regional cooperation, as well as Serbia’s progress in the EU integration process.
