estival of new art and culture from Serbia – Serbinale will be held from 11 to 13 September in Berlin’s cultural center Ballhaus Ost.

The festival is organized for the third year in a row, with a number of artists from Serbia who live and work in Germany presenting and participating in exhibitions, performances, musical program and panel discussion.

Name of this year’s festival is the “modern nomads” (Moderne nomaden), and the main themes are migration, migrant integration and coexistence of different peoples and cultures in the German society. Serbinale seeks to point out the challenges of integration through the examples of the lives of people from the former Yugoslavia, who are finding a new identity and life outside the homeland.

The program will begin with the group exhibition “Hospitality”: what life abroad means for the identity and integrity and whether one’s dignity is set by a specific passport, are just some of the questions that will be discussed.

The artists who will be present are: Tanja Ostojic, Ivan Boskovic, Marta Popivoda, Aleksandar Jestrovic Jamesdin, Dejan Markovic and Sara Radonja. Authors are Mia David and Zorana Djakovic Minniti, and was organized in cooperation with Heartefact foundation and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia.

The discussion titled “Necessity or Choice: migration and identity”, will deal with issues of who I am, where I belong, and how to cope with a new culture and an unfamiliar environment, where a new identity begins, and where does the old end.

Panelists: Robert Šoko – DJ, Jovana Popić – multimedia artist, Danko Rabrenović – journalist, musician and writer, Sanja Lukjančenko – fashion designer and Peter Hermans – social pedagogue. Moderator of the program is Rudiger Rosig – journalist of the TAZ.

The discussion was organized in cooperation with the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence (BFPE).

Through performance-auction “Pass It On” choreographer Dragana Bulut explores questions of authorship, artistic object and its value offering for sale objects created in its work during the master study Solo / Dance / Autorship in Berlin.

During the entire duration of the festival the POP-UP tattoo studio will be open – Super Session with Super Timor, tattoo artist and designer from Belgrade.

In the music program Serbinale will feature DJs Milos Pavlovic aka Regen (Ilian Tape) and Rene Loewe (Vainqueur / Scion Versions). The program of this year’s concert will close Serbinale Berlin punk-jazz quartet KUU! which leads the multinational composition of the actress and singer Jelena Kuljić.
