The workshop on the accession of the Wastern Balkans to the European Union Emission Trading System (EUETS), in the framework of the Balkan Dialogues, was organized on November 30th, 2023 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade. The initiative to open the path to accession in this most imporant mechanism of EU’s climate policy should enable new investments in the energy transition of our region. It was launched at the Berlin Process Summit in Berlin in 2022, discussed on meetings of experts and representatives of the Western Balkan electric energy companies as well as on the 2023 Berlin Process Summit in Tirana. The Foundation BFPE for a Responsible Society started the project devoted to this topic with the support of the Open Society Foundation – Western Balkan. The project’s leading expert Christian Egenhofer, Associate Senior Research Fellow , CEPS & Senior Research Fellow, Florence School of Transnational Governance, EUI, Florence, published a Policy Brief to be downloaded at the LINK.

In addition, Tanja Miščević, caretaker Minister for European integration of the Republic of Serbia, and Christian Egenehofer, senior researcher at CEPS, wrote jointly on the same topic. You can read their joint view HERE.
