The discussion within the round table, organized by BFPE with the support of the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), took place on November 28th at the ‘Sloboda’ hotel in Šabac.

In the first panel discussion, participants discussed the identification of opportunities and challenges for the local business community. Foreign direct investments represent a developmental component of Serbia’s economy. With the arrival of foreign investors, the impact on the local community as a whole, especially the local business environment, is inevitable. Although influencing pre-defined circumstances that determine the relationship with a foreign investor is often challenging, the goal of this panel is to identify opportunities the local business community can leverage to improve its position in relation to foreign investors. It also addresses challenges that need resolution to enhance the position of domestic enterprises.

The second panel discussion aimed to formulate recommendations for improving the position of local businesses. Recommendations were formulated based on identified challenges and opportunities discussed in the first part of the session. These recommendations primarily focus on improving the position of domestic economic entities and maximizing benefits for the local business community in Šabac.

Šabac is one of four cities in Serbia where a round table on this topic was organized. The Foundation BFPE for a Responsible Society, in collaboration with CIPE, will create a comprehensive document based on the conclusions and recommendations from local debates. This document will include a set of recommendations to be communicated at the national and international levels.
