The introductory seminar of the informal Green Parliamentary Group (GPG) was held on January 21st and 22nd at the Zira Hotel in Belgrade.
At the beginning of the seminar, MPs were addressed by Sonja Licht, President of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, and Zarko Petrovic, Team Leader for Vital Development at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Sonja Licht pointed out that climate change and everything related to the environment is a great test of our time, while Zarko Petrovic stated that green topics represent topics of our time that dominate the political agenda of the whole world.
Nada Lazic, former coordinator of the Green Parliamentary Group, presented the experience and achieved results in the previous convocations of the informal GPG. She pointed out that the Green Parliamentary Group needs people who have recognized the importance of the topics that GPG deals with.
Ivan Karic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Environmental Protection, presented an overview of the negotiating position for Chapter 27, which he stated would be one of the most demanding, both financially and professionally.
The first day of the seminar ended with strategic planning of the work of GPG in 2021.
The second day of the seminar began with the topic of financing in the field of environment protection in Serbia, which was discussed by Tanja Petrovic, executive director of the non-governmental organization Young Researchers of Serbia which highlighted the significant contribution of GPG in the promotion of environmental protection and Dejan Maksimovic from the environmental center Stanište.
The MPs talked about the communication strategy of GPG and the work with the media with the independent expert Igor Jojkic and Marija Mutic, an expert associate for internal communications and socially responsible business at Erste Bank. After the conversation, the conclusions and closing of the seminar followed.
The Office of the United Nations Development Program in Serbia (UNPD) supported the realization of this activity within the project “Capacity Development for Improved Implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements “, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
