From 12 to 14 November in the Hotel Palace in Belgrade, students from all over Serbia met with the aim to consider ways in which climate change affects not only the environment but people’s lives as well.
Devastating floods of Easter 2014 helped climate change enter the focus of activity of state bodies in Serbia, raising the awareness in all categories of the society.
BFPE, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany started the project Youth is the New Green, aimed at high school students. As part of a cycle composed of three seminars and workshops, we hope to help some of the best students of technical schools and high schools in Serbia develop skills needed to promote adaptation to climate change, as well as to expand their knowledge on the reduction of CO2 emissions, water resources management, and other topics that are relevant to this area.
The first seminar, entitled “Climate change – How does it change us?” was opened with a lecture by Prof. Vladimir Djurdjevic from the Faculty of Physics in Belgrade, who spoke of the emergence of climate change from the perspective of modern climatology.
Within the three-day gathering, participants had the opportunity to talk with Professor of Social Ecology Darko Nadić from the Faculty of Political Sciences, as well as to visit the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute in Kosutnjak, where they talked to meteorologists who are working at the center for monitoring climate change.
The next seminar will take place from 26 to 28 November, and will be focusing on sustainability of biodiversity and how we can protect our environment in the 21st century.
