For the past eight years, the ROMACTED program has been working to improve good
governance and provide support to Roma at the local level, as well as to create synergy
between the Roma community and decision-makers. The city of Zajecar has continued its
participation in the second phase of the ROMACTED program, which is financially supported by
the Council of Europe and the European Union. The activities are implemented with the support
of the Foundation BFPE for a Responsible Society. Based on defined criteria, six families with
the lowest economic status were selected, and their bathrooms were completely reconstructed
in the previous period.
“It means a lot to us to have received new bathrooms. Now everything is very nice, and we take
care of it to make it last as long as possible,” said one of the beneficiaries whose house
received a new bathroom.
Representatives of the Council of Europe and the Foundation BFPE visited the city of Zajecar
on May 27, 2024, and had the opportunity to talk to the members of the families who have new
bathrooms.
Additionally, a meeting was held with city representatives who have been involved in the
ROMACTED program activities from the very beginning, to discuss further plans that the city of
Zajecar will undertake in the coming period to improve the position of the Roma community.
