From June 8th to June 26th, 2023, a series of workshops on the implementation of local mechanisms on gender equality, with a focus on developing an Action Plan for Gender Equality in the municipality of Lučani, were held as part of the project “Strengthening Parliamentary Democracy and Inclusive Political Dialogue” implemented by BFPE with the support of UNDP.

The goal of the project, on which BFPE has been diligently working for the past three years, is to maintain and expand spaces for political dialogue with decision-makers, support transparency in decision-making processes, and promote the active engagement of politicians in the domain of gender equality. Supporting the political empowerment of women is another critical area where progress has been made, but there is still room for elected assemblies to do much more

The one-day workshops are intended for councilors who will actively participate in the development of the Action Plan for Gender Equality, as the new Law on Gender Equality requires its creation, as well as the formation of parliamentary bodies dedicated to gender equality in the local community.

During all three workshops held from June 8th to 26th, participants gained practical knowledge and skills necessary for further work on implementing gender equality policies at the local level. They were informed about and had the opportunity to discuss the legal mechanisms that must be implemented within the legal timeframe, as well as the use of existing mechanisms to increase the involvement of councilwomen in matters of gender equality.

All attendees highly rated the quality of the workshop during the evaluation and expressed interest in continuing collaboration and receiving additional training in this field.
