How do citizens, activists, civil society organizations cope with difficult and challenging situations today? How can citizens and activists approach the situations they can influence and strengthen their ability to overcome challenges? How can organizations empower their members?

The Belgrade Open School (BOS), the Foundation BFPE for a Responsible Society (BFPE) and the Balkan Investigative Network Serbia (BIRN Serbia), with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), are organizing an online conference entitled “Citizens’ Resistance through Activism: We Choose Change” on 8 December, starting at 11 am. At the conference, we will present awards to the “Initiators (Movers) of Change” and present successful initiatives and individuals who have contributed to the development of local communities. In addition, within the panel, we will discuss and look at successful examples of community mobilization with the aim of providing support and assistance to citizens.

The conference is organized within the project “Active Citizens for Better Society – Advocating for Cooperation and Democratic Development” implemented by BOS, BFPE and BIRN with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This four-year project was launched in November 2018 and aims to improve public advocacy practices in civil society, practices that represent the interests of local communities and actively involve citizens in their work.
