The Association of Schools of Political Studies of the Council of Europe welcomes the award of the Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize for 2023 to Osman Kavala and calls for his conditional release by the Turkish authorities.
Osman Kavala, a philanthropist, human rights defender, and founder of the Turkish School of Political Studies, was sentenced to life imprisonment in April 2022.
The Foundation BFPE for a Responsible Society, as part of the Association of Schools of Political Studies, calls on the Council of Europe to suspend Turkey until it ceases to violate the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and the values that all EU and Council of Europe member states have pledged to uphold.
